How a Valve Engineer Actually Impacts Valve Selection

Valve selection is often treated as a specification exercise. In reality, it’s an engineering decision that directly impacts system reliability, maintenance costs, and operational risk. Variables such as flow, pressure, temperature, fluid characteristics, and actuation requirements all influence the outcome. However, the real challenge isn’t identifying a valve that meets spec; it’s selecting one that performs consistently in its environment. That gap between specification and real-world performance is where valve engineers make the difference.
